YOUTH MINISTER FAQ
What do I have to do for my students to attend a College Night?
In the spring (between March and May), youth ministers will receive an email with the link for Youth Minister registration (the link can also be found on our website, www.asjb.org). Youth Ministers will be asked for their name, contact information, and the most accurate estimated number of students they plan on bringing to the College Night. For planning purposes, we ask that you register only when you’re sure you have an accurate estimate of students you will bring.
Your students will then have to fill out a student registration form individually (we will send you that link to provide to your students). The College Nights are completely free for you and your students!
Do I have to attend a College Night with my students?
Youth Ministers are encouraged to attend a College Night with their students, although this is not mandatory. By coming to a College Night, youth ministers are able to hear talks from current college students to better understand the challenges that your students will face in college, and making the College Night an official (and sometimes final) youth ministry ‘event’ for your seniors will often encourage students to come.
Are College Nights just for students who are going to Catholic colleges?
No, College Nights are for students attending any university or community college, not just Catholic colleges. Many students who come to the College Nights attend public and non-religious private colleges.
What are the benefits of attending a College Night for my students?
Students who attend a College Night are able to meet other students attending their college, learn how to get involved in their Catholic Campus Ministry, get an amazing Bosco Bundle filled with books and resources to help them on their faith journey, and hear from current college students who are facing the challenges of keeping their faith on the college campus! Students are provided with connections, resources and encouragement to support them on their college journey.
Are the College Nights just for students who are attending a 4-year university?
No! Students who are attending community college are also welcome to attend the College Nights. The George Mason Catholic Campus Ministry welcomes students from Northern Virginia Community College, and the University of Mary Washington Catholic Campus Ministry does the same for Germanna Community College students. The College Nights are a great way for students who are attending community college to meet students who are also going to their schools, as well as learn how to get involved at their campus ministries!
Students who are not planning to attend college after high school graduation are also more than welcome to attend the College Nights, although some of the information shared at the Nights may not be as applicable to them since much of the information provided is geared towards students.
